Judges including AgriRisk’s Deidre McCallum last month completed field visits of six outstanding farms for the Australian Cotton Industry Awards.

The recipients of Awards in five categories, including the AgriRisk High Achiever of the Year Award will be announced during a gala dinner at the Australian Cotton Conference on 16 August on the Gold Coast.

Three of the cotton industry’s most talented growers are being considered for the AgriRisk High Achiever of the Year Award.  They are:
• Mat Stott “Point Farms” at Darlington Point
• Scott Armstrong and Richard Ross from “Cooinda” St George
• Ian Carter from “Connamara” Quirindi

According to Dee, the finalists in this year’s awards were incredible examples of best practice cotton production in one of the tightest fought contests for a number of years.

“We visited a wide range of very different and very successful, profitable and sustainable cotton farming enterprises.  The growers show a great commitment to the industry and a remarkable willingness to share information with their peers,” Ms McCallum said.

“We’re looking forward to Awards night when the recipients will be announced, a 1970s themed party that will also be celebrating 40 years of Cotton Australia,” she said.
